ARSENAL FC DARE NIGERIA'S SUPER EAGLES IN PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY.
Come August 5th 2012 at the Abuja International stadium in the capital city of Nigeria, Arsenal FC will test their full team against the Super Eagles of Nigeria as part of their 2012-13 pre-season preparations. It might also interest you to note that Arsena have never played a West African side though they have paraded many West Africans in their side amongst whom is former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu, Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor while Cameroonian midfielder Alexandre Song holds down the defensive midfield position in their team.
The London outfit which finished third last season in the English Premiership League (EPL) last season will present a strong side to face the Nigerian team currently ranked 60th in the world by the Federation of International Football (FIFA). This will afford Arsene Wenger a chance to unveil his team for the teeming Gunners fans in Nigeria and across the continent while also giving coach Stephen Keshi of Nigeria another platform to expose his new look Eagles and further his rebuilding process.
The Nigerian trip will mark the conclusion of Arsenal's pre-season training tour after their China and Malaysia visit. You may recall that the London Club shelved their traditional annual pre-season tournament at the Emirates stadium due to the upcoming Olympic games to be held in London at about the same period.
The promoters of the Arsenal tour, DanJan Sports who also brought the July 2008 Manchester United and Portsmouth pre-season friendly to Abuja, tickets for the upcoming friendly match with Nigeria will go on sale from July 4 across outlets to be announced soon. I am sure the stadium will be packed full because Naija arguably boasts of the Largets Arsenal fan base in Africa. Whatever the case, it will be a win- win situation for the country. Big ups to the organisers of this event.
