SILVA LINING FOR PSG AS THIAGO SILVA SIGNS FIVE YEAR DEAL WORTH £33 MILLION, ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVICH TALKS ONGOING.
French club Paris Saint German (PSG) have announced the signing of Brazillian born AC Milan defender Thiago Silva for five years in a deal worth about £33 million. The deal makes him the second most expensive defender in the world after Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand. Meanwhile the club is still in talks with Swedish and AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovich over a possible switch to the Parc De Princes.
The Parisian club has been boosted by Qatari investment and has signed some top class players like Defenders Alex and Maxwell, Midfielder Javier Pastore and Coach Carlo Ancelloti in its quest to return to the elite after years of instability. The club presided by Nasser Al-Khelaifi continues to attract much media attention this summer with some major signings as it seeks to become one of Europe’s strongest sides.
The 27 year old Thiago who last month extended his contract with AC Milan had earlier rubbished reports that he was ready to turn his back on AC Milan this summer despite interest from around Europe. Even the San Siro outfit rejected an earlier bid for the player by the Ligue 1 runners up only for President Silvio Berlusconi to accept an improved offer for both Zlatan and Silva owing to Milan's financial misfortunes.
Silva will join the likes of Thiago Motta, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Jeremy Menez in the Quatari project as they hope to add to the club's trophy cabinet of two League titles, three League Cups, eight French Cups and one European Cup Winners Cup. And with the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovich imminent, these are sure signs the French club is ready to make a statement in Europe next season. Little wonder Thiago Silva's agent claimed Paris St Germain will soon be the biggest team in Europe - even if his client does not sign.
