DISUNITY CAUSED FRENCH OUSTER IN EURO 2012

For those who gave the French team a serious consideration as to winning the European crown this year, internal bickering could be the reason why the French team led by Laurent Blanc could not go beyond the quarter finals following their impressive run of 22 international matches unbeaten. The manner in which they played and lost the game against Sweden suggested something was amiss and this played out at the end of the game when Hartem Ben Arfa was reported to have clashed with the coach. Samir Nasri on the other hand left his for the match against Spain when he had a row with a Journalist after the Spain match.

With an impressive array of world class players playing weekly for some of the biggest clubs in europe and by extension the world, one would expect that a sound professional conduct will be observed by all and sundry. Unfortunately, they chose to go the way of the Dutch national team.

According to former coach Raymond Domenech - in charge for the shambolic 2010 World Cup campaign, also marred by infighting - he told Ouest-France that Euro 2012 “showed the full extent of our weaknesses.”
He said: “A major tournament reveals the strength of a group, a generation. The most glaring [weakness is] their inability to see anything other than their navel

Whatever the case may be, I believe Laurent Blanc has done a good job so far with the team but it remains to be seen if the French Football Federation think the same way. The end of this saga is yet to come.
